Texans show frustration over economy, trust Trump more than Harris

Fox News Digital spoke to residents of south Houston, Texas this week about the economy and who they trust most between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump to grow the economy as president.

After the Costco purchase, local residents expressed frustration with current costs and the economy in general, both on and off camera.

“All prices have gone up,” Melissa told Fox News Digital.

“No, it doesn’t work well at all,” said one resident from Egypt.

Ralph said the economy has created more expenses for his family, saying, “I think inflation is out of control. Housing costs and interest are out of control. Grocery trips have doubled. And a good grocery trip was like 150-125. Now the average grocery trip is 250-300.”

Local residents also shared who they thought would handle the economy well as president.

“When Trump was in office, you know, things were going well,” Mark said.

Ralph said he “definitely” trusts Trump to handle the economy.

I don’t think Kamala even knew what was going on. I think he’s a puppet,” he said. “He has a proven track record, hopefully he’ll come back and save this Harris economy.”

Another citizen added that he trusts the former president more: “Trump, because he is the only businessman who can run our country.”

Mark cited Trump’s time in office compared to the current Biden-Harris administration as a reason to trust the former president.

“Trump because of what he did the last time, who was in office and what the current administration is, what happened to the current administration in the last four years,” he said. . “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. You know, they tried to fix it. So here we are today.”

Trump Harris

No Republican presidential candidate has lost Texas since 1976, but the state has become more competitive in recent elections. Trump won by less than six points in 2020, a big difference from 12 years ago when Mitt Romney carried the state by about 16.

Economy remains the top issue on the minds of American voters as they prepare to vote in the presidential election.

A September Fox News national poll also in the field after the debate showed that 39% of voters surveyed said the economy was their most pressing issue, ahead of immigration (16%) and abortion (15%). All other subjects tested were single digits.

While the country’s economic recovery from this epidemic continues, inflation is still there a major concern among Americans.

The former president has a 13-point lead over the vice president in a post-debate poll from The New York Times and Siena College, and he is favored by 7 points in an ABC News Ipsos poll also conducted after the battle.

But Trump’s advantage over Harris on the economy stands at just 5 points in the Fox News poll, and just 2 points in the AP/NORC poll.
